Ethics Conference in Cd. Juarez

Thursday, April 3rd, 2014 -- As a follow-up to an ethics conference for non-profits in El Paso, Texas in 2013, Paso del Norte Health Foundation and FORTALESSA, with the assistance of FEMAP Cd. Juarez and FEMAP Foundation hosted an ethics conference in February 2014 for non-profits in Cd. Juarez. The objective was to inform and to train Cd. Juarez’s non-profit sector on issues of ethics, governance, and structure as well as enforce the obligations and regulations applicable in Mexico. Participants had the opportunity to dialogue with local experts and provide input on community strategies.

FORTALESSA is an organization that helps to strengthen non-profit institutions through support services, consulting and training to generate a real impact in the community of Cd. Juarez. The Conference, Foro Etica en las Organizaciones de la Sociedad Civil, was held at the Centro de Convenciones Cibeles and more than one hundred sixty-five people attended. The attendees were informed and trained on several topics by the following presenters:

Governance and Conflict of Interest in Civil Society Organizations (CSO) by Lic. Alejandro Martínez Reyes from Save the Children;

Transparency, Obligations and Regulations by Lic. Francisco Solís Payán from Grant Thornton; and

Ethics in Human Resources by Lic. Carlos Padilla Garcia from Cordis de Mexico

Follow-up conferences were held throughout the month of March to strengthen the operation of the non-profit organizations while contributing to their sustainability and dealt with topics ranging from:
