FEMAP will be hosting La Vie en Rose: the 10th Annual Friends of FEMAP International Gala on October 2, 2015. Since 2006, the event has become one of the largest bi-national fundraisers in the El Paso/Cd. Juarez region. The gala attracts more than 1,000 guests from both United States and Mexico.
Guests are guaranteed a lively time, but most importantly, proceeds from table and ticket purchases provide nursing school scholarships, underwrites the Valor Arte Para Niñas y Niños program as well as the Mobile Medical Unit. Unrestricted funds help continue the work of the FEMAP Foundation.
- Those seeking an education at FEMAP’s School of Nursing are poor, needing a scholarship for the modest $43 a month tuition. FEMAP Foundation allocates funds from gala revenue for scholarships. On average 67 students benefitted from scholarships at different levels that range from 50 to 100 percent. For the 2014 calendar year, 67 students were awarded scholarships from the 2014 FEMAP Gala.
- FEMAP’s Mobile Medical Unit (MMU), takes preventive medical care to marginalized communities in the municipality of Cd. Juarez. Besides diabetes and prostrate screenings, the MMU also provides early detection and treatment of cervical and uterine cancer. The MMU underwent a remodeling upgrade made possible by the funds collected in the 2014 Gala and Paso Del Norte Challenge Fund. More than 300 families depend on these services.
- In partnership with Paso Del Norte Foundation proceeds from the gala allow for more than 600 children, ages nine to 12, to participate in FEMAP’s Valor Arte Para Niñas y Niños. Through fine arts and dance choreographies, children’s lives are enriched, creative thinking is nurtured and a sense of security is fortified. The program also strengthens self-discipline while keeping physically active children in marginalized communities.
- A small percentage of these unrestricted funds remain at the FEMAP Foundation for administrative use so that the Foundation may continue its work.
